If this were in Tokyo, I would go every day. A venue reminiscent of a secret Brooklyn hideout, where young owners, customers of the same generation, and musicians mingle over jazz. Upon entering, you feel a unique tension, and the live performances up close create an immersive atmosphere. Listening to the sound of Neta Raanan, the sole female performer of the night, you realize that jazz is not dead―it continues to thrive today. The quintessential Brooklyn scenery you pass through on the way from the nearest station to the venue is also charming.

ネタ・ラーナン
ネタ・ラーナンはニュージャージー州出身のサックス奏者兼作曲家。若き日、ネタはニューヨークのレコード店の壁に飾られたセロニアス・モンクとレスター・ヤングの神秘的な白黒写真に惹きつけられました。彼女は東海岸各地のクリエイティブ・ミュージック・ワークショップに参加し、ユース・アンサンブルで演奏する一方、ヴィレッジ・ヴァンガードのようなローカル・ヴェニューに通い、ポール・モティアンやヴァンガード・ジャズ・オーケストラなど、数多くのアーティストと接する機会を得ました。バークリー音楽大学での学習を通じて、多様な背景を持つ教師や同級生から影響を受け、音楽性を磨いていきました。音楽修士号を取得後、ネタは創造的な音楽の道を追求し続けています。彼女のコラボレーションはジャンルを越え、ジャズからアバンギャルド、フォーク音楽、ヒップホップアーティストやシンガーソングライターの伴奏、ミックスメディア作品まで多岐にわたっています。

Neta Raanan
Neta Raanan is a saxophonist and composer raised in New Jersey. In her youth, Neta was drawn to the mysterious black and white photos of Thelonious Monk and Lester Young perched on the walls of the record stores in New York. She began attending creative music workshops across the east coast, participating in youth ensembles, and frequenting local venues like the Village Vanguard where she was exposed to artists like Paul Motian, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, and others. Neta continued to nurture her musicianship during her education at Berklee College of Music, gathering influences and approaches from a diverse and profound community of teachers and peers. Since earning her Masters in Music degree, Neta has been pursuing a life in creative music. Her collaborations supporting other artists span across genres, ranging from jazz to avant garde, to folk music to accompanying hip-hop artists and singer/songwriters, and mixed medium productions.
