ニューオリンズを後にして、シカゴに向かう間に１都市挟みたい。そう思ってグーグルマップと睨めっこしていたら、フィラデルフィアが気になりました。映画『ロッキー』の街であり、アメリカ建国の地。まったく『Blue Giant』とは関係ありませんが、気になるジャズクラブもあるではないか。真っ先にグーグルの画像検索で思わず指を止めたのがこの「 Chris' Jazz Cafe」でした。しかも滞在初日はポートランドでもその巧みな技を確認したジョー・ペリが自身のバンドで登場ということもあり、行かないわけにはいきません。演奏が始まればアグレッシブなプレイで伴侶であるカイサ・メンシヴとはもちろん息ぴったり。ルーカス・ピノのサックスはブロウしまくり、アダム・バーンバウムの指は鍵盤の上を踊るよう。幸先のいい予感しか感じることがなかった、贅沢な夜でした。

I wanted to stop in one more city on my way from New Orleans to Chicago. As I was looking at Google Maps, I noticed Philadelphia. It's the city from the Rocky movies and the birthplace of America. It has nothing to do with Blue Giant, but there's also a jazz club there that I'm interested in. The first thing I saw in Google's image search was Chris' Jazz Cafe, and I couldn't stop myself from clicking on it. What's more, on the first day of my stay, Joe Peri, who I had seen in Portland, was appearing with his own band, so I had no choice but to go. Once the performance started, he and his partner, Kajsa Mäensivu, were in perfect sync with their energetic performance. Lucas Pino's saxophone was blowing away, and Adam Baumbaum's fingers seemed to be dancing on the keyboard. It was a luxurious evening that left me with nothing but good feelings.

ドラマー、パーカッショニスト、教育者であるジョー・ペリは、主にジャズ・ドラマーとして知られており、2009年にニューヨーク市に移住して以来、世界中のさまざまなバンドやパフォーマーと共演している。ジョーは、ニューヨーク市にある多くの一流ジャズクラブで定期的に演奏しており、その中にはSmalls、Mezzrow、The Jazz Gallery、Cellar Dog、Dizzy’s、Birdlandなどが含まれる。 2015年にマンハッタン音楽学校を卒業して以来、ジョーはエド・チェリー、ピーター・バーンスタイン、シェイマス・ブレイク、デイヴ・キコスキー、アーロン・ゴールドバーグ、ジェシー・ヴァン・ルーラー、エリック・アレキサンダー、パット・ビアンキなど、数多くの著名なジャズアーティストとコラボレーションを行っている。

Joe Peri

Drummer, percussionist, and educator. Joe Peri is primarily known as a jazz drummer, but he has played with a diverse range of bands and performers all around the world since arriving in New York City in 2009. Joe performs regularly in many of New York City’s top jazz clubs such as Smalls, Mezzrow, The Jazz Gallery, Cellar Dog, Dizzy’s, and Birdland to name a few. Since graduating from the Manhattan School of Music in 2015, Joe has collaborated with numerous notable jazz artists like Ed Cherry, Peter Bernstein, Seamus Blake, Dave Kikoski, Aaron Goldberg, Jesse Van Ruller, Eric Alexander, and Pat Bianchi among many others.
