滞在先のホテルから目と鼻の先にあった「TIME」。だから「Cris’ Jazz Cafe」からの帰り道で思わず遭遇してしまったこのセッションは晴天の霹靂で、衝撃的でした。地元で活躍するマーロン・B・ルイス率いるバンドが真紅のライトを浴びながら店内を埋め尽くすオーディエンスを完全にロックオン。まったくもって個人的で勝手な感想ですが、この日もしかしたらアメリカで一番ファンキーでブギーな演奏をしていたのが彼らだったように思えたほど、痺れました。ダフトパンクのカバーなどやっていなかったはずですが、この時の気分を言い表すなら、”Get Lucky”。あの時あの場所に居た人なら分かってくれるはず。でもそうやって簡単に、完全に真空パックすることができないことが、ライブ・ミュージックの魅力でもあるわけです。

TIME was just around the corner from where I was staying, so I stumbled across this session on my way home from Chris’ Jazz Cafe, and it was a bolt out of the blue, a real shock. The band led by a local star Marlon B. Lewis completely rocked the audience, who filled the venue while he bathed in crimson light. This is a totally personal and selfish opinion, but I was so blown away by their performance that I thought they might have been the most funky and boogie band in America that day. I don't think they did a Daft Punk cover, but if I had to describe the mood at the time, it would be “Get Lucky”. Anyone who was there at the time would understand. But that's also the attraction of live music - you can't just vacuum pack the experience.

マーロン・B・ルイス
マーロン・B・ルイス（通称œMBルイス）は、ペンシルベニア州フィラデルフィア出身のプロのドラマーです。マーロンは2歳の時に初めてドラムスティックを手にし、5歳で正式に演奏を始めます。マーロンはバークリー音楽大学の学生で、そこで様々なジャンルの音楽を学びました。GUY、ジョン・レジェンド、ロー・ジェームス、ブライアン・マックナイト、ローリン・ヒル、そして最近ではフレンチ・モンタナといったアーティストとステージを共にし、レコーディングを行うという幸運に恵まれてきました。また、マーロンは素晴らしいファンクバンド、スター・キッチンでもドラマーを務めています。マーロンは、自分が好きなことをすべきであり、決してそれを当たり前のことだと思わず、決して諦めないことが大切だと信じています。

Marlon B. Lewis aka œMB Lewis is a professional drummer from Philadelphia, PA. Marlon picked up his first pair of drumsticks at the age of 2 and officially started playing at age 5. Marlon was a student at Berklee College of Music where he became trained in various genres of music. Marlon has been fortunate to have shared the stage and record with the likes of GUY, John Legend, Ro James, Brian McKnight, Ms. Lauryn Hill, and most recently, French Montana. Marlon is also the drummer for an awesome funk band, called Star Kitchen. Marlon believes that you should do what you love, NEVER take it for granted, and NEVER GIVE UP!
