シカゴを代表するジャズクラブで、シカゴを代表するトランペッターの演奏に浸る。待ちに待ったマーケス・キャロルのショーを滞在3日目の夜に「Andy's Jazz Club 」で迎えることができました。その演奏における表現の幅が豊かなことに感服すれば、優しく観客を包み込むおおらかな人柄もとても印象的でした。気さくにインタビューにも応えてくれて、新作アルバムもプレゼントしてくれたうえ、おまけにショーの合間に堪能したグリルドサーモンも完璧だったものですから、まるで彼の家でおもてなしを受けたような気持ちになったものです。実際このヴェニューは彼にとって“ホーム”でしょう。だからあんなにリラックスしていたし、それがちゃんと音に表れていた。ただの観光客であろうと往年の口うるさいリスナーであろうと、彼の愛溢れる音がすべての席に満遍なく届いていたはずです。

Immerse yourself in the performance of a trumpeter that represents Chicago at a jazz club that represents Chicago. I was able to see the long-awaited Marques Carroll show at “Andy's Jazz Club” on the third night of my stay. We were impressed by the breadth of expression in his performance, and also by his generous personality, which warmed the audience. He was very open and friendly in his interviews, and he even gave me a copy of his new album as a gift. On top of that, the grilled salmon I enjoyed in between the shows was perfect, and it felt like I was being entertained in his own home. In fact, this venue is probably his “home”, which is why he was so relaxed, and that came across in his sound. Whether you were just a tourist or a picky old listener, his loving sound would have reached every seat.

セントルイスの音楽一家に生まれたマーケス・キャロルは、わずか8歳でトランペットに夢中になった。彼の祖父はジャズ界のレジェンド、クラーク・テリーと仕事をしており、彼は若いミュージシャンに大きな影響を与えることになる。ルイ・アームストロングのブルースやマイルス・デイヴィスのゆったりとしたサウンドを吸収して育った彼は、やがてデポール大学でジャズ演奏を学ぶようになった。その後、クラシックやヒップホップからの影響も受け、現代的で多才なミュージシャンとして活躍している。

Marques Carroll
Born into a musical family in St. Louis, Marques Carroll fell in love with the trumpet when he was only 8 years old. His grandfather worked with jazz legend Clark Terry who would become a major influence on the young musician. Marques grew up absorbing the blues of Louis Armstrong and the laid back sounds of Miles Davis, eventually going on to study jazz performance at DePaul University. He expanded his palette to include classical and hip-hop influences, making him a thoroughly modern and versatile musician.
