ジャズ生誕の地、ニューオリンズ初日はグラミー賞5冠のジョン・バティステと彼の家族もゆかりあるニューオリンズの名店「Maple Leaf Bar」へ。開店早々に足を踏み入れるも人気はまばら。一抹の不安を覚えながらショーの時間を待っていたらどこから湧いてきたのかオーディエンスが続々と集まり、リハーサルなしではじまった地元TBC Brass Bandのパフォーマンスはジャジーでファンキーな圧巻の出来。おまけにステージから飛び出してきたトランペッター、ショーン・ロバーツのトランペットはディジー・ガレスピーみたいにひん曲がっててめちゃくちゃカッコいいし、バーカウンターでは晩年のチェット・ベイカーのそっくりさんが寛いでいたり、まるで音楽の神様が悪戯して此処ではない何処かに誘われたような、夢のような夜でした。

On my the first day in New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz, I went to the famous Maple Leaf Bar, which is also associated with John Batiste, a five-time Grammy Award winner. I went in early, but the place was half empty. I was a little worried, but then the audience started to gather round and the local TBC Brass Band started to perform without any rehearsal. It was a jazzy, funky, amazing performance. What's more, the trumpet player, Sean Roberts, who popped up on stage, played with the same kind of bends as Dizzy Gillespie and it was really cool. and At the bar counter, there was even a look-alike of Chet Baker in his later years, relaxing and it was like the god of music was playing a little prank trick and inviting me to somewhere other worldly. It was a dreamlike night.

TBCブラスバンド（別名トゥー・ビー・コンティニュード・ブラスバンド）は、若い世代のブラスバンドとしてストリートやステージを制し、他の追随を許さない。高校時代にバンドをスタートさせ、後にフレンチ・クォーターの街角、特にバーボン通りとキャナル通りでジャムセッションを行い、観光客やローカルの人々を踊らせ、そのグルーヴに誘う。TBCは、クエストラブとザ・ルーツ、Dr.マイケル・ホワイト、ボスマン・スペリオル、シャマール・アレンなど、多数のアーティストとコラボレーションしている。

TBC Brass Band, otherwise known as To Be Continued Brass Band, rules the streets and the stage as one of the younger generation of brass bands set to make a difference. The group started in high school with taped-together instruments, jamming on the school grounds and, later, on French Quarter street corners, especially at Bourbon and Canal, where they inspired tourists and locals to dance and groove. TBC has collaborated with a host of artists, including Questlove and the Roots, Dr. Michael White, Bossman Superior, and Shamarr Allen.
